Wines & Styles
La Vie Vineyards 2000-Present

In 2000 we produced only 30 cases of Chardonnay and 50 cases of Pinot Noir, extremely limited production releases that have aged into remarkably complex & mature wines. We continue to vinify small lots of grapes chosen from ideal sites throughout the Central Coast with great success. Our micro-production gives us a high level of quality control, resulting in wines to withstand the test of time. Techniques such as sur lees aging, whole cluster fermentation, various yeast blends, extended fermentations, & long aging in French Oak create truly unique wines for the connoisseur. We typically store our wine in oak longer than other producers, and release the vintages about 1 year later than other Pinot producers. Though our emphasis is on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, we have released limited production of other varietals that have captured our interest.

We are also the 1st California producer to bottle our Pinot Noir in Stelvin Screwcap enclosure, beginning with our 2002 vintage, and are continuing the course with all of our wines. Though this was controversial at the time, we have been pleased with the results, and have received tremendous positive feedback from our tasters and serious wine collectors. The wines have proven age-worthy with the screwcaps, possibly even extending the life of the wine. Since we are (still) some of the youngest proprietors in the state, we are truly the wave of the future, and are open minded about technological revolutions.

Red Wine

2008 'Rasta Rita' Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills
A lighter style Pinot Noir from our estate vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills. Aged in barrel for 1 year, this elegant Pinot is a refreshing change from the overextraced Pinots on the market today. Beautiful, floral aromatics of violet and lavender are complimented by bright cherry and cranberry fruit with a spicy cedar and mineral finish.

2007 'Pretty in Pinot' Pinot Noir Santa Cruz Mountains
A tannic and dense Pinot from the region that introduced us to wine. Caramel cherry & Pomegranate fruitiness emerge from a spicy and powerful mid pallate. Earthy undertones provide a lasting finish.

2007 'Black Mountain' Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands
Another great Pinot from the 2007 vintage. A densely powered wine with no shyness in fruit. Classic Santa Lucia aromas of caramel and blackberry tantalize with a smoky and meaty texture. Finish goes for days, this wine will age for a decade + or drink now if you like massive Pinots.

2006  'Black Mountain' Pinot Noir, Santa Lucia Highlands
From the same vineyard as the 2005, this wine has a more elegant oak profile and spicier finish than the previous vintage. Bright fruit aromas and a superb mouthfeel continue to develop in the glass. An excellent follow up vintage to the 2005.

2008 Late Harvest Riesling - 375 ml
A new world version of a German TDB. Apricot nectar, honey, and apple flavors explode in the mouth of this sensual and sexy wine. Quite possibly the best wine we've made. Not for the light of heart, this late harvest wine is truly exceptional and should be enjoyed during joyous occasions surrounded by your favorite people. 8.5% Alcohol, 26% Residual Sugar.

2007 'SLH Reserve' Chardonnay
Similar to our off-dry 2004 Chardonnay which was adored by many. A full bodied Chardonnay with a 1.5% sweetness on the verge of being a dessert wine, but with 2 years of barrel age and a good alcohol content. Marshmallow, caramel, butterscotch, and honey delight in this unconventional Chardonnay with a creamy and buttery texture. This is a truly original wine that will sweeten the soul and intoxicate the senses.

2007 Riesling Monterey County
This wine has been nicknamed 'Rocket Riesling' because of its high alcohol content (approaching 18%). An off dry wine with classic Riesling aromas of peach, apricot, pineapple, and petrol, that are balanced with the high octane qualities of this wine. It is reminiscent of a German Riesling.

2004 'SBC Reserve' Chardonnay, Santa Barbara County, Late Harvest
This lovely and eccentric Chardonnay enters the mouth like honey, a massive texture that is slippery, thick, and succulent like ambrosia. At the first sip it masks itself as a sweet wine, the 2% residual sugar intoxicating as soon as it hits the lips. However, the sweetness dries out in the mouth, and the toasted oak and nut flavors emerge. On the finish, high alcohol and acidity cuts the wine and brings your senses back down to earth. This is like no Chardonnay you have tried before!!
